Teenage Girl Rescued from Brutal Guardian in Port Harcourt
The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Rivers State Branch has rescued a teenage girl from horrific abuse at the hands of her guardian in Rumuokwuta, Port Harcourt. Uchechi Ukoro was allegedly tortured with a heated kitchen knife by her guardian, Mrs. Benedicta Ezenibe, after being accused of "following boys."
Distress Call Leads to Rescue Operation
According to a statement released on November 10, 2025, by FIDA Nigeria's Publicity Secretary in Rivers State, Rachel C. Princewill, the organization received a distress call about the severe abuse on Monday, November 10, 2025. The Vice-Chairperson, Dr. Vivian Akunesiobike, and Mrs. Nneoma Adiele immediately reported the case to Kala Police Station.
With police support, the victim was successfully rescued from No. 7 Wogboroma Street, Rumuokwuta. During the rescue operation, it was discovered that the guardian had not only tortured the teenager but had also prevented her from attending school.
Police Investigation and Victim Safety
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested the suspect and commenced a thorough investigation into the incident. Mrs. Benedicta Ezenibe now faces serious charges for her alleged actions against the minor in her care.
The victim, Uchechi Ukoro, is currently in a safe home receiving necessary care and support. FIDA Rivers State Branch has committed to ensuring the teenager's wellbeing and eventual safe reunion with her biological parents.
In their official statement, FIDA emphasized that "this incident is a painful reminder of the urgent need to strengthen child protection mechanisms and promote public awareness against all forms of abuse. No child deserves to suffer such cruelty."
The organization has vowed to follow up on the case until justice is served and proper measures are taken to protect vulnerable children in similar situations across Rivers State.
