A young Brazilian social media influencer has died in a tragic incident after allegedly being thrown from the tenth-floor balcony of her apartment by her husband.
CCTV Footage Contradicts Husband's Suicide Claim
Maria Katiane Gomes da Silva, aged 25, lost her life at her residence in São Paulo, Brazil. The suspect is her 40-year-old husband, Alex Leandro Bispo dos Santos. The incident occurred following a heated argument between the couple.
When emergency services arrived at the scene, they found Bispo dos Santos holding his wife's body on the ground floor of the building. He initially told authorities that she had taken her own life by jumping.
Graphic Evidence of Assault Captured on Camera
However, investigators quickly found that his account did not match the evidence. Security camera footage from the building tells a different and violent story. The police state the CCTV shows a series of physical assaults in the crucial minutes before Gomes da Silva's death.
The footage reportedly shows the suspect hitting his wife in the building's car park. The assault continued inside the elevator, where he is seen grabbing her by the neck. In a desperate struggle, Gomes da Silva is seen clinging to the elevator door as her husband drags her out.
Approximately one minute later, Bispo dos Santos returned to the elevator alone. He then collapsed to the floor, holding his head in his hands. Moments after that, Maria Katiane Gomes da Silva fell to her death from the tenth floor.
Arrest and Legacy of a Young Creator
Based on the compelling video evidence, Alex Leandro Bispo dos Santos was arrested nine days after the incident on suspicion of femicide—the gender-motivated killing of a woman.
Maria, originally from Ceará state, had moved to São Paulo to pursue new opportunities. She had built an online following by creating engaging content about makeup, travel, and wellness. She leaves behind a young daughter from a previous relationship.
This case has once again turned the spotlight on the global crisis of violence against women and the deadly consequences of domestic abuse.
