The father of South African footballer Jayden Adams has declined to comment on reports circulating online about the cause of his son's death, as police continue to investigate the 25-year-old's sudden passing.
Adams, who represented Bafana Bafana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, was found dead at a property in Cape Town over the weekend. Authorities have opened an inquest into the circumstances surrounding his death but have not disclosed a cause, urging the public to avoid speculation while investigations continue.
Family Struggles to Process Tragedy
Speaking to local broadcaster eNCA, Adams' father, Juanito Adams, said the family was awaiting the results of an autopsy and was struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
“As you all know, it was an untimely death. The family is struggling to process it. It won't be easy to carry on. People say it will become easier, but it won't. You just learn to live with it,” he said.
He added, “so we'll see what the time ahead holds for us. The whole world is reacting to Jayden's death. Like I said, it's very tough, we can see the love the world had for his soccer and for Jayden.”
He continued, “Its very overwhelming honestly.”
Partner Pays Tribute
Adams' longtime partner, Aqueelah Adendorf, also spoke out following the professional soccer player's sudden death.
“There are no words to describe the pain I'm feeling,” she wrote in her caption. “Rest in peace, my love. Thank you for every memory, every laugh, every hug, and every moment we shared. You were not only the love of my life but also my greatest supporter and my best friend.”
“A part of my heart left with you, and I will carry your love with me forever,” Adendorf continued. “Until we meet again, I'll miss you every single day. Rest easy, my angel. I love you always and forever.”
Police Investigation Ongoing
Police have not released details on the cause of death, and an autopsy is pending. The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time. The football community has expressed condolences, with tributes pouring in from fans and former teammates.
