The Kano State Police Command has recorded significant successes in two major intelligence-led operations, preventing the trafficking of a large cache of explosive materials and illicit drugs within the state.
Massive Cache of Explosives Intercepted in Gwale
In the first operation, on January 13, 2026, officers from the Command's Anti-Daba Unit, acting on gathered intelligence, stopped a commercial tricycle rider in the Sani Mainagge Quarters of Gwale Local Government Area. The rider was found carrying three bags containing suspicious heavy materials.
A specialized team from the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit was immediately deployed. Upon analysis, the bags were discovered to contain a staggering 3,700 pieces of electric detonators.
The tricycle rider cooperated with investigators, leading to the arrest of a principal suspect. The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Garba, also known as 'Manyan Baki', a 49-year-old from Zamfara State, confessed to facilitating the movement of the explosive devices from Nasarawa State through Kano to other undisclosed locations.
Drug Bust in Fagge Residence
In a separate but simultaneous operation, police officers attached to the Rijiyar Lemo Division executed a search warrant at a residence in Tudun Bojuwa Quarters, Fagge LGA.
The search yielded two large sacks filled with incriminating items. The EOD-CBRN team again conducted an identification process on the contents. One sack was found to contain 6 rolls of detonating cords, while the other held suspected illicit drugs, including:
- 20 parcels of dried leaves believed to be Cannabis Sativa.
- 220 sachets of suspected Exol tablets.
Police Credit Intelligence-Led Policing, Urge Public Vigilance
In a statement released on Thursday, January 15, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, attributed the breakthroughs to the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on enhanced intelligence gathering.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the officers involved. He reiterated the command's commitment to crime prevention and control, urging residents to remain security-conscious.
The police advised the public to immediately report any suspicious movement, items, or persons using the Command's emergency numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, 09029292926. Citizens are warned not to touch any suspicious object but to maintain a safe distance and alert the authorities promptly.
Investigations into both cases are actively ongoing to uncover further details and apprehend other individuals connected to the criminal networks.
