The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man for the alleged murder of his wife in a shocking incident of domestic violence. The suspect, Suleman Mamuda, is accused of fatally attacking his 25-year-old wife, Umaima Maidawa, in their home.

Details of the Tragic Incident

According to the police, the violent event took place in Bayawa Village, within the Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, provided details in a statement released from Birnin Kebbi on Friday, January 16, 2026.

Usman stated that the alleged attack occurred in the early hours of Monday, at approximately 6:30 a.m.. The weapon used in the crime was the wooden handle of a hoe, which the suspect allegedly wielded to strike his wife, leading to her tragic death.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Following the incident, the suspect fled the village in an attempt to evade capture. However, the police, acting on credible information provided by vigilant community members and through dedicated investigation, were able to trace and apprehend Mamuda.

"The suspect fled the area after the incident but was later traced and arrested following police investigation and credible information received from members of the community," confirmed SP Bashir Usman.

Case Transferred for Discreet Investigation

The Commissioner of Police for Kebbi State, Mr. Umar Mohammed-Hadejia, has taken a direct interest in the case. He has issued a directive for the matter to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for what has been described as a discreet and thorough investigation, paving the way for prosecution.
