Kogi Police Arrest Man With 339 Suspected Indian Hemp Wraps

The Kogi State Police Command has apprehended a 52-year-old man in connection with the discovery of 339 wraps of substances believed to be Indian hemp in Kabba, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of the state. The arrest took place on May 9, 2026, during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted by operatives of the Area Command in Kabba.

Police Commissioner Briefs Journalists

Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, disclosed the development while addressing journalists at the command headquarters in Lokoja. He stated that the operation was part of ongoing intelligence-led policing efforts aimed at curbing criminal activities across the state.

According to the commissioner, officers intercepted a Honda Pilot vehicle during the operation, leading to the discovery of the suspected illicit substances concealed inside the car. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly picked up the consignment from Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State and was en route to deliver it in Yola, Adamawa State.

Suspect in Custody

The police commissioner added that the suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the suspected trafficking network. He reaffirmed the command's commitment to sustaining the fight against crime, particularly drug-related offences, and urged residents to continue providing useful intelligence to security agencies.
