Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has vowed to take legal action against an unidentified man captured on video dumping refuse into a canal in the Lekki area. The incident occurred along Salem Spar Road in the Ikate neighborhood and was recorded by a vigilant resident, who confronted the suspect before posting the footage online.

Reacting to the viral video, Commissioner Wahab praised the resident for his civic duty and assured the public that the ministry would pursue the case decisively. “We will ensure that the individual is prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” Wahab stated, emphasizing the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward environmental offenses.
Penalties for illegal waste disposal
The Lagos State government recently warned environmental offenders that illegal waste disposal carries a fine of N250,000 or a three-month prison sentence, as stipulated by the state’s environmental laws. This case highlights the administration’s commitment to enforcing these regulations and protecting the state’s waterways from pollution.
