The Lagos State Police Command has taken decisive action by sealing Signatious Hotel, located in the Ajao Estate area of Lagos, following the mysterious and tragic death of a 29-year-old man, Mattias Airenekhueme. The incident, which occurred at the hotel facility, has prompted an intensive investigation by law enforcement authorities.
Police Investigation and Arrests
In a statement to Punch on Thursday, February 12, a confidential police source confirmed that operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti have sealed the hotel as part of their ongoing probe into the circumstances surrounding the death. The source, who requested anonymity, revealed that the organiser of the pool party has also been arrested, bringing the total number of suspects currently in police custody to four.
"The police have sealed the hotel pending an ongoing investigation into the incident. The organiser of the pool party is also currently in police custody," the source emphasized, highlighting the seriousness with which authorities are treating the case.
Details of the Tragic Event
Mattias Airenekhueme was reportedly attending a pool party at Signatious Hotel on Saturday, January 31, where he had gone to sell tickets and earn money before the unfortunate tragedy unfolded. His father, Henry Airenekhueme, recounted to the publication that he received a distressing call that day from one of Mattias's elder brothers, informing him that the young man had been rushed to Isolo General Hospital and that a family member was urgently needed.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Henry Airenekhueme was met with a heartbreaking scene: his son's lifeless body was still inside the vehicle that had transported him to the medical facility. According to the father, one of Mattias's friends, who accompanied him to the hospital, provided an account of the events leading up to the discovery.
"He said when he returned about five minutes later and tried calling my son, there was no response. The lady told him my son had left the spot, but his phone was still there charging. While searching for him, they later found his body in the swimming pool," Henry Airenekhueme narrated, detailing the friend's testimony.
Doubts and Autopsy Proceedings
However, Henry Airenekhueme expressed significant doubts about the initial drowning narrative, pointing to what he described as unusual physical signs on his son's body. "If he truly drowned, why was his stomach flat instead of swollen? And why was there foam coming out of his mouth and nose?" he questioned, suggesting that there may be more to the story than meets the eye.
In response to these concerns, the father disclosed that an autopsy is being conducted by the police to determine the exact cause of death. "An autopsy is being carried out by the police. We are waiting for the outcome," he added, indicating that the family and authorities are awaiting forensic results to shed light on the mysterious circumstances.
The sealing of Signatious Hotel underscores the Lagos State Police Command's commitment to thoroughly investigating this case, as they work to uncover the truth behind the tragic death of Mattias Airenekhueme and ensure justice is served.
