Deceptive Methods and Targeted Vehicles

The syndicate employed a highly deceptive method involving a Mercedes-Benz car jack that had been modified to resemble firearms. This tool was allegedly used to intimidate security guards and residents, facilitating their entry into secured estates. Once inside, the gang focused on vandalizing vehicles, particularly targeting high-end models.

Police investigations revealed that the gang specifically aimed at Toyota brands such as Hilux and Highlander, as well as Lexus 650 Jeeps, Mercedes-Benz vehicles, and other SUVs. Their criminal activities involved the removal of valuable vehicle components, including:

  • Brain boxes
  • Wiring systems
  • Side mirrors
  • Control devices
  • Glass fittings
  • Other expensive parts

Recovered Evidence and Ongoing Investigations

Items recovered from the suspects during the operation include multiple vehicle brain boxes and the modified Mercedes-Benz jack, among other exhibits. The police boss confirmed that the suspects have confessed to their crimes and are currently assisting detectives in ongoing investigations.

The primary objective of these investigations is to apprehend other members of the syndicate and ensure their prosecution through proper legal channels. During interrogation, the suspects corroborated the allegations and admitted to being part of a criminal network involved in vehicle vandalism within Lagos State and its surrounding areas.

Police Advisory and Community Security Measures

CP Jimoh issued a strong advisory to residents and estate managers, emphasizing the importance of proper verification before granting access to individuals claiming to be security personnel. He specifically encouraged residents to liaise with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in their respective areas to confirm the identity of anyone seeking entry under such pretenses.

Where there is any doubt about an individual's credentials, such persons should be immediately referred to the nearest police division for verification. Jimoh reassured residents of the Command's unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout Lagos State.

The Commissioner stressed that sustained vigilance, active community cooperation, and timely reporting of suspicious activities would significantly enhance security across all communities in the state. This arrest represents a significant breakthrough in the fight against organized crime targeting luxury vehicles in residential areas.
