Banditry Escalates in Kano with Abduction of Nursing Mothers

In a separate and deeply troubling security development, communities in the Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State are facing a severe escalation of banditry attacks.

On Sunday, bandits struck again, reportedly kidnapping five nursing mothers. This fresh attack occurred less than a week after troops from the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Kano successfully repelled an invasion, neutralizing 19 gang members.

Tragically, sources revealed that the bandits callously threw away the babies of the abducted mothers before taking the women to an unknown location. One woman managed to escape the assailants.

Community Leader Laments Security Situation

Alhaji Yahya Bagobiri, a community leader in Faruruwa village, Shanono, narrated the event to journalists on Monday. He confirmed that the latest incursion resulted in five missing women and the theft of a large number of livestock.

Bagobiri expressed profound concern over the persistent attacks in the Fulani-dominated areas, describing the situation as "getting out of hand" despite the heavy deployment of military and other security personnel. He reported that the bandits, riding on motorcycles, stormed Yan Kwada village on Sunday night, instilling palpable fear and forcing residents to flee, leaving the village deserted.

"We continue to witness these attacks almost daily, despite the presence of the military and other security operatives," Bagobiri lamented. He added that during the latest attack, the community alerted security forces, but no action was taken until the bandits had completed their raid and abductions around 9 p.m.
