A Cardwell man has been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of decapitating his mother, Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Nicholas Jain announced.
Details of the Case
Trevor John Huber, 43, was convicted at trial of first-degree murder for the death of his 63-year-old mother, Charlotte Wilson. Judge Josh Underwood imposed a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The two-day trial took place from May 18 to May 19 in Dunklin County, where Huber was found guilty as charged.
Jain expressed gratitude to law enforcement, stating, “I want to thank the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol for their professional and diligent work in investigating and solving this homicide and in all the cases they handle.”
Incident and Investigation
On December 21, 2018, the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a man on the 300 block of North Main Street in Cardwell, according to a probable cause affidavit. Dispatchers noted that Huber sounded confused during the call.
A deputy responded to the address and made contact with a man, later identified as Huber, who answered the door naked. When asked about the whereabouts of his mother, the deputy observed that Huber appeared disoriented and possibly impaired by illegal narcotics.
During the interview, Huber told investigators he had used methamphetamine a few days before the murder. The deputy entered the home and discovered a decapitated woman, later identified as Charlotte Wilson. Huber was arrested at the scene.
In a Mirandized interview, Huber admitted that “he was concerned he killed his mother” and claimed he believed she was trying to poison him. He wrote “I killed my mother” on a piece of paper, then tore it up and swallowed it.
Officers executed a search warrant at Huber’s home, where they found Wilson’s head, as well as a bloody knife and hammer believed to have been used in the killing.
