Bismark Aduah, a 28-year-old man, is currently serving a five-month prison sentence at the Winneba Local Prison in Ghana after being convicted of theft. The incident stemmed from a dispute over items he purchased for his girlfriend, Rebecca, during their nine-year relationship.
Background of the Relationship
According to Bismark, he and Rebecca had been in a relationship for nine years and had lived together in Ashaiman for the past two years. However, Rebecca's mother disapproved of the relationship and did not like Bismark. This disapproval led to tensions, prompting the couple to decide to retrieve items that Bismark had bought for Rebecca from the mother's house.
The Break-In and Arrest
Bismark and Rebecca returned to the mother's residence, where they broke the door and lock to gain entry. They then took the items to the father's home. The mother subsequently pressed charges against both of them, leading to their arrest and detention.
Speaking to Crime Check, Bismark explained his actions, stating that he only wanted to recover what he had purchased for his girlfriend. However, the court viewed the act as theft, resulting in legal consequences for both individuals.
Court Sentencing
The Afransi Court sentenced Bismark to five months imprisonment and imposed a fine of GH¢1,560. He has already served two weeks of his sentence but has been unable to pay the fine, which would secure his release. Rebecca, on the other hand, received a lighter sentence of one month and two weeks in prison. Bismark paid her fine, leading to her release.
