Manhunt for Suspect in Borno Child Rape Case

The Borno State Police Command has initiated a widespread search for a man accused of sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl in the Low-Cost area of Maiduguri. Authorities are actively refuting social media claims that the suspect was previously detained and let go.

Clarifying the Facts of the Case

In an official statement released on Wednesday, December 16, 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, provided a detailed timeline of events. He confirmed that the command received a formal petition on November 24, 2025, concerning a horrific incident alleged to have occurred on November 13, 2025, at approximately 9:00 a.m.

The victim, a five-year-old pupil, was reportedly attacked while on her way to school. The suspect has been identified as Abdulsalam M. Adakwaki, also known as Yaro.

Police Action and Community Engagement

ASP Daso emphasized that, contrary to circulating reports, no arrest has been made in this case. The suspect remains at large, and intensive efforts to locate and apprehend him are fully underway. The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) is leading the probe.

To widen the search net, the police command has engaged local community leaders, including the Lawan, and has formally requested the assistance of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in tracking down the fleeing suspect.

Commitment to Transparency and Public Appeal

The police statement highlighted the command's commitment to a transparent investigation. The process is being conducted under appropriate supervision and is open to monitoring by relevant Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

The command is urgently appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with credible information on the whereabouts of Abdulsalam M. Adakwaki (Yaro) is urged to promptly report to the nearest police station or help ensure his arrest and handover to the authorities.
