The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the tragic incident in an official statement released on Friday, November 7, 2025. The agency's Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, provided the distressing details.
Emergency Response and Discovery
According to the statement, the agency's Emergency Response Unit received a distress call at approximately 9:27 am on Thursday, November 6, 2025. The call was placed by a concerned individual named Usman Adamu, who reported that an elderly woman had fallen into a toilet pit in Sarai Village, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.
Fire service operatives, dispatched from the agency's headquarters under the leadership of Director Sani Anas, rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they confirmed the victim's identity as Habiba Ado, aged 96.
The rescue team recovered the woman from the pit, but she was confirmed dead at the scene. Relatives at the location informed the officials that the deceased had been suffering from mental illness and that they had been searching for her for the preceding four days before her tragic discovery.
Aftermath and Community Plea
Following the recovery, the remains of Habiba Ado were handed over to the Ward Head, Alhaji Musa Muhammad, for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
