NDLEA Arrests Baker of Drug-Laced Cakes, Seizes Cocaine

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 29-year-old businessman, Ogadi Peter, who specializes in producing cakes and cookies laced with drugs for parties and social events in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Acting on credible intelligence, operatives traced him to his residence in the Life Camp area of the FCT, where he was apprehended on Monday, May 11, with 800 grammes of skunk and 2.70 kilogrammes of drug-laced cookies.

Interceptions at Courier Companies

In a separate operation, the anti-narcotics agency intercepted consignments of cocaine and various opioids concealed within the walls of cartons used to package clothes and other items bound for the United Kingdom and Australia. The seizures occurred at a courier company in Lagos on Friday, May 15, 2026, during routine examination of shipments destined for both countries. A total of 170 grammes of cocaine, sealed in cellophane parcels and hidden inside the walls of a carton containing clothes headed for Australia, was recovered. Additionally, a range of opioids, including 200 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 1,100 capsules of tramadol, and 100 ampoules of promethazine injection, was discovered in another carton destined for the United Kingdom.

Massive Skunk Destruction in Delta State

In Delta State, NDLEA operatives raided Ejeonu village in Ukwuani Local Council on Sunday, May 10, destroying 27,500 kilogrammes of skunk cultivated on 11 hectares of farmland. An additional 22.9 kilogrammes of the substance were recovered. A 52-year-old suspect, Ifeanyichukwu Peter, was arrested in a follow-up operation at Obiaruku. A similar raid in Orogun village, Ughelli North Local Government Area, on Tuesday, May 12, resulted in the destruction of 37,500 kilogrammes of skunk and the recovery of 55.4 kilogrammes of the substance on 15 hectares of farmland. A 30-year-old suspect, Godwin Vincent Osadera, was also arrested. These operations brought the total quantity of skunk destroyed by NDLEA operatives, supported by soldiers, to 65,000 kilogrammes.

Further Arrests and Seizures Across Nigeria

In Kaduna State, 361 kilogrammes of skunk were recovered, and a 42-year-old suspect, Husaini Suleiman, was arrested during a raid at the Dan Magaji area of Zaria on Wednesday, May 13. In a separate operation, NDLEA officers on patrol along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway intercepted a cache of military-grade ammunition on Tuesday, May 12. A 35-year-old suspect, Abdullahi Hassan, was arrested while conveying 1,989 rounds of RLA 7.62mm ammunition concealed inside fresh white cassava granules, locally known as garri. The suspect and the recovered ammunition have since been transferred to another security agency for further investigation.

In Ogun State, NDLEA operatives recovered 361 kilogrammes of skunk from a suspect, Aliyu Sani, during a raid in the Ogere area on Wednesday, May 13. Similarly, a 27-year-old suspect, Sufiyanu Mohammed Misa, was arrested with 105,850 pills of opioids, including tramadol, diazepam, and exol-5, along the Zaki-Biam Road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State on Thursday, May 14. In Oyo State, two suspects, Adeleke Olamide Aliyah, 20, and Aloba Abdulazeez, 25, were arrested on Thursday, May 14, at Challenge II in Saki town in connection with the seizure of 99 litres of skuchies. In Edo State, NDLEA officers raided Ago Forest in Orhionmwon Local Government Area on Friday, May 15, destroying 1,388.4175 kilogrammes of skunk cultivated on two farms.

Recoveries in Kano and Advocacy Efforts

In Kano State, a 25-litre jerry can of palm oil used to conceal 1.2 kilogrammes of tramaking 225mg pills was recovered at Kofar Ruwa Motor Park on Monday, May 11, following credible intelligence. On the same day, a 35-year-old suspect, Aminu Isa, was arrested in the Sabuwar Sharada area with 30.5 kilogrammes of skunk. The War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) social advocacy activities by NDLEA Commands continued across the country in the past week.

The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers and men of DOGI, Delta, Kaduna, Oyo, Taraba, Kano, FCT, and Edo Commands of the Agency for the arrests and seizures of the past week. He also praised their counterparts in all commands across the country for pursuing a fair balance between their drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts.
