NDLEA destroys two cannabis farms, arrests four in Edo

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Edo State Command, has destroyed two cannabis plantations with a total yield of 1,388.42 kilograms in Ago Forest, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state.

Destruction of Cannabis Farms

State Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju, in a statement issued on Monday, confirmed that the farms measured 0.362021 hectares and 0.229346 hectares respectively, covering a combined area of 0.555367 hectares. The plantations were completely destroyed following credible intelligence.

Arrest of Suspects

Ofoyeju disclosed that four suspected drug traffickers were apprehended over the past week. The suspects include 25-year-old Eniye Osague, 43-year-old Osaretin Erabor, 38-year-old Vivian Chukwuma, and 44-year-old Osigwe Omogie.

  • Eniye Osague was arrested on May 15, 2026, behind the Oredo Local Government Secretariat in Benin City. Recovered from her were 272 grammes of Scottish loud.
  • Osaretin Erabor, 43, was also arrested at the same location on the same day, found in possession of 914 grammes of Cannabis sativa.
  • Vivian Chukwuma, 38, was arrested at Hausa Quarters, Oluku, Benin City. Items recovered included 315 grammes of cannabis loud, 22 grammes of Colorado, 38 grammes of methamphetamine, and 30 grammes of Tramadol 100mg.
  • Osigwe Omogie, 44, was caught with 113 grammes of Cannabis sativa, eight grammes of loud, and five grammes of tramadol.

The NDLEA commander emphasized the agency's commitment to eradicating drug abuse and trafficking in the state, urging the public to provide useful information to aid enforcement efforts.
