Gunmen Abduct Newborn from Teenage Mother in Nasarawa, Sparking Community Tension
Suspected gunmen, believed to be kidnappers, have abducted a newborn baby from a 19-year-old mother in Kidnawi 2, Maraban Gurku, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The incident occurred on Saturday night, sending shockwaves through the community, which is located approximately 18 kilometres from the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Mother Recounts Terrifying Ordeal
The mother, identified as Aisha, described how the attackers invaded her room around 11:00 p.m. while she was asleep with her baby. "I was asleep when I heard a loud knock on my door. Before I could react, two hefty men forced their way in. One grabbed my neck and covered my mouth, while the other took my baby and ran away," she recounted to our correspondent.
Aisha struggled to raise an alarm but could not get immediate help, as her husband was away in Lagos at the time. A neighbour later revealed that residents did not hear her cries until after the attackers had fled to an unidentified location.
Community and Police Response
Chief Abubakar Yusuf Mai Anguwa Baƙo, the community leader, confirmed the abduction and stated that the incident has been reported to the police. Security operatives have initiated efforts to trace the suspects, but all attempts have proven abortive, with no meaningful developments recorded so far.
Community members conducted a search but have yet to find any leads. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for Nasarawa State Command, SP Rahman Nansel, said, "Please confirm from the people if they reported this issue because I am yet to be briefed on it."
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in recovering the newborn and apprehending the culprits, as tension mounts in the area over this brazen crime.
