A nursing student discovered murdered in her room in Imo State has been identified as Wendy Achumba. She was a student at the College of Nursing, Umuadara Umulogho, and was found dead on Thursday, May 21, in her off-campus lodge in Umulogho, Obowo Local Government Area.
Discovery of the Body
Neighbors became concerned when she did not emerge from her room and failed to respond to repeated calls. After several unsuccessful attempts to reach her, they forced open the door and found her lifeless body with her throat slit almost to the point of decapitation. The door was still locked from the inside with the key, a source told Punch. Additionally, her mobile phone was missing.
Victim's Background
According to community sources, Achumba hailed from Ngwa in Abia State. She had completed her midwifery program and was undergoing post-basic training at the institution at the time of her death.
Police Investigation
The Imo State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation has begun. “The Command is aware of the tragic incident involving the death of a female student of the College of Nursing, Umulogho, whose body was discovered in her private off-campus apartment,” Okoye said. “Following the report, the DPO and operatives promptly visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment, after which the body was recovered and deposited in the morgue, while investigations have commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and arrest those responsible.”
