Mustapha Adio Adekunle, popularly known as Sego and chairman of the Lagos State National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has publicly spoken out following the death of the union’s Organising Secretary, Toba Ajiboye, also known as Toba Ijaya. In a heartfelt statement released on Tuesday, July 14, Sego described Ajiboye as a loyal and dependable ally whose passing has left a painful void in the union.
Sego Pays Tribute to Slain Ally
“The news of the sudden passing of Comrade Toba Ajiboye has left me deeply saddened and heartbroken. It is difficult to come to terms with the loss of such a loyal, dependable and committed ally,” Sego stated. He extended condolences to Ajiboye’s family, friends, and colleagues, praising his dedication to the union throughout his lifetime. “Your loyalty, friendship and unwavering support will forever remain in my heart. You will be deeply missed, and I will never forget the bond we shared. Rest well, Toba. Until we meet again,” he added.
Details of the Attack
Toba Ijaya reportedly died after sustaining gunshot wounds during an attack by suspected gunmen along Ikorodu Road. Initial reports indicated that he survived alongside other occupants of the vehicle, but later updates confirmed he succumbed to his injuries. The Lagos State Police Command has since intensified security in the area and launched an investigation, assuring residents that efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible.
Police Update on Killers
The police have given a fresh update on the case, confirming that a manhunt is underway for the perpetrators. Authorities are working to track down the attackers and bring them to justice. The command urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
MC Oluomo Re-elected as NURTW Chairman
In related news, members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers re-elected Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, known as MC Oluomo, for a second term as Lagos State chairman. He and 30 other executive members were elected unopposed during the union’s election, marking a continuation of his leadership.
