NYSC Member Stabs Father to Death in Abuja

A tragic incident has occurred in the Guzape area of Abuja, where a 53-year-old businessman, Adimike Godwin, was allegedly killed by his son, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The incident reportedly followed a heated argument between the father and son at their residence.

Details of the Incident

According to sources within the Electrical Dealers Association of Nigeria, the deceased was a prominent electrical dealer and a respected member of the union. He owned properties in Lekki, Lagos, as well as Guzape and Maitama in Abuja, and frequently traveled between the two cities for business.

A source from the association alleged that the son returned home from a club and became involved in a heated argument with his father. The son reportedly accused his father of being financially unfair and compared him to other wealthy parents who provided luxury cars for their children. The disagreement escalated over the alleged mismanagement of business funds.

“Following the confrontation and an argument over mismanagement of business funds, the son allegedly stabbed his father three times in different parts of the body,” the source claimed.

Police Response and Investigation

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident. She stated that the case came to light after concerned individuals reported being unable to contact or gain access to the deceased. “The FCT Police Command is investigating the death of Mr. Adimike Godwin of Guzape, which was discovered following a distress call,” Adeh said.

Police officers arrived at the scene and found the injured victim in a pool of blood. He was later confirmed dead by doctors at Karu General Hospital. Five suspects, including a relative of the deceased, have been taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi.

Union’s Actions

The Electrical Dealers Association of Nigeria stated that its members immediately moved to secure Godwin’s shops and warehouses to prevent theft or looting following the tragedy. “As a union, our immediate action was to secure all his shops and warehouses to prevent anyone, including apprentices, from carting away goods. That is our normal procedure whenever such a tragedy happens to one of our members,” the source added.

The police have urged the public to remain calm and report any relevant information to the command.
