Commissioner of Police Eloho Okpoziakpo has officially taken charge as the new head of the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) in Lagos. During his inaugural address at the unit's headquarters in Ikoyi on Tuesday, he outlined his vision for the command, stressing the critical importance of professionalism, discipline, and strict adherence to the rule of law.

Emphasis on Professionalism and Discipline

He underscored that discipline remains a cornerstone of the Nigeria Police Force's operations, essential for maintaining public trust and effective law enforcement.

Appeal for Public Cooperation

In a significant move, Okpoziakpo appealed to Nigerians to actively support law enforcement efforts, particularly in the fight against financial crimes. He emphasized that timely and credible information from the public is crucial for tackling fraud effectively.

"We must see ourselves as partners in maintaining law and order," he said, highlighting that public cooperation is indispensable for successful policing. This call to action seeks to build a collaborative environment where citizens and police work together to combat economic offenses.

Commitment to Accountability and Transparency

The commissioner pledged that accountability and transparency would be the foundation of his leadership. He announced plans to strengthen internal monitoring mechanisms to ensure that all operations are intelligence-driven and fully compliant with legal standards.

Okpoziakpo further assured that the PSFU would remain focused on its core mandate of combating fraud and protecting economic activities. He vowed that offenders would be prosecuted without bias, reinforcing the unit's dedication to justice and integrity.

Alignment with Police Reforms

Aligning with ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force, Okpoziakpo expressed his gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, for the confidence placed in him. He committed to prioritizing efficiency, responsiveness, and integrity in handling complex financial crimes.

Under his leadership, the PSFU aims to reinforce public trust by enhancing its operational effectiveness and ensuring that all actions are conducted with the highest ethical standards. This approach is expected to bolster the unit's reputation and its ability to safeguard economic interests in Lagos and beyond.
