Osun APC chieftain urges military to rejig strategy

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on the Nigeria Army to revise its operational strategy to effectively address the insecurity plaguing parts of the nation. Speaking on Sunday, Oyintiloye expressed optimism that the country's current security challenges would be overcome with the support of all stakeholders.

Government intensifies efforts against criminality

The former lawmaker, who represented Obokun State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, noted in a statement issued in Osogbo that the Federal Government is ramping up efforts to curb all forms of criminality and ensure the safety of lives and property. He described President Bola Tinubu's ultimatum to terrorists and their sponsors as timely.

According to Oyintiloye, President Tinubu's Democracy Day address declaring zero tolerance for terrorists and their collaborators demonstrated the administration's commitment to restoring peace. He expressed confidence in the professionalism and dedication of Nigeria's security personnel, asserting that they have the capacity to flush out criminal elements and restore lasting peace.

Call for strategic adjustments

“If necessary, service chiefs should review and adjust their operational strategies without hesitation, as time is of the essence,” Oyintiloye added. He further stated, “We share the pain of parents, families, and relatives of victims devastated by mass abductions, especially of schoolchildren, and ongoing killings by terrorists. It is a tragic situation, and no one would wish such experiences on themselves or their loved ones.”

Oyintiloye urged the public to remain hopeful and support government efforts to rescue those in captivity and bring perpetrators to justice. He noted that intelligence and security operatives are actively working to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for acts of violence.

Support from state governors

“No criminal element will be allowed to undermine the peace and stability of the nation. The government is doing everything within its power to secure the release of abducted victims and end the senseless killings,” he said. Oyintiloye called on state governors to complement Tinubu's efforts by providing adequate support and resources to security agencies within their jurisdictions.
