The Oyo State Police Command has officially denied reports that abducted students and teachers in Orire Local Government Area have been rescued, stating that security operations are still ongoing.
Police Debunk Rescue Claims
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command described the circulating reports as false and misleading. The victims remain in captivity while joint security forces continue efforts to secure their release and apprehend the perpetrators.
“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the abducted students, pupils, and teachers in Orire Local Government Area are yet to be released, as intensive efforts by security agencies continue to ensure their safe rescue and the arrest of those responsible for the criminal act,” the statement read.
Warning Against Fake News
The police cautioned Nigerians against spreading unverified information, warning that fake news could create panic and hamper rescue operations. “The spread of fake news and misinformation only creates unnecessary panic, heightens tension, and diverts limited security resources that are critically needed for the ongoing operations,” the statement added.
Residents and social media users were urged to remain calm and support the joint security team. The command advised the public to verify any information before sharing and to contact the police control room or spokesperson for accurate updates.
Ongoing Search Operation
Tactical units and intelligence platforms have been deployed to forest corridors linked to Lake Chad, where the kidnappers are believed to be hiding. The abduction has heightened concerns among residents and parents amid rising cases of school kidnappings across Nigeria.
The police assured that verified information would be released as developments unfold and reiterated their commitment to rescuing the victims and bringing the criminals to justice.
