A birthday celebration in Plateau State descended into chaos when a clash erupted between youths from Mista-Ali and Tilde Fulani communities, disrupting the event and sparking a protest that temporarily blocked a major highway.
Incident Details
According to security sources, the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, May 30, 2026, during a birthday party held at Nemi Hotel in Jos North Local Government Area. The altercation began between groups of youths attending the event and quickly escalated. Mista-Ali youths subsequently launched a protest, blocking the major highway that passes through their community.
Security Response
Troops deployed under Operation Enduring Peace, tasked with maintaining security in the area, responded to reports of the clash and the ensuing protest. Upon arrival, security personnel came under attack from some protesters, who allegedly hurled stones and bottles at their vehicles, causing damage to one of the operational vehicles. To restore order and disperse the crowd, the troops fired warning shots. The protesters then vacated the highway, allowing normal traffic to resume.
Arrest and Investigation
The organiser of the birthday party, identified as Muhammad Yusuf, 22, was arrested in connection with the incident. He was handed over to security authorities at Keystone Outpost, Mista-Ali, for further investigation and necessary action. No fatalities were reported during the incident, and security operatives continue to monitor the area to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.
Authorities' Appeal
Authorities have urged residents to remain peaceful and to channel any grievances through lawful means. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the clash are ongoing.
