Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command, in a collaborative effort with local vigilante groups, have successfully foiled a highway robbery attempt along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin Expressway. The joint operation led to the arrest of a suspected armed robber and the recovery of a tanker loaded with diesel, highlighting the effectiveness of community-security partnerships in combating crime.

Swift Response Thwarts Criminal Activity

The incident unfolded when a joint patrol team responded swiftly to reports of armed robbers blocking the highway at Egbeda Village, near Ogbomoso. According to the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the hoodlums had targeted a diesel-laden tanker driven by Surajudeen Sulaiman, forcibly dispossessing the driver and his motor boys of their valuables. The situation escalated into a gun duel as the robbers attempted to flee upon sighting the approaching patrol team.

Arrest and Manhunt for Fleeing Suspects

During the exchange of gunfire, one suspect, identified as 32-year-old Dere Yahaya, was apprehended by the security forces. Other members of the gang managed to escape into the surrounding bush, with suspected gunshot wounds.
