Police Foil Kidnap Plot, Recover Arms in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has successfully thwarted a planned kidnap operation, forcing a gang of suspected criminals to flee and abandon their weapons, ammunition, and even a humble meal of soaked garri and groundnut.

Coordinated Raid Based on Intelligence

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team, in collaboration with local community vigilantes, stormed a suspected criminal hideout. The location was along a bush path in the Upper Agbarho area of the state.

The operation, which took place at about 9:35 p.m. on January 11, 2026, was led by Julius Robinson. It was launched after reports indicated that approximately six suspected kidnappers had been sighted in the area.

Superior Firepower Forces Suspects to Flee

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the suspects opened fire immediately upon sighting the police team. The officers responded with what was described as superior firepower, compelling the hoodlums to run into the bush.

The police confirmed that the suspects fled with varying degrees of gunshot injuries. In their haste to escape, they left behind a cache of incriminating items at the scene.

Recovered Exhibits: From Firearms to Food

A manhunt has been launched for the fleeing suspects, while the police have taken custody of all recovered exhibits. The items paint a vivid picture of the interrupted criminal activity and include:

  • One FNC rifle loaded with one round of live ammunition.
  • One pump-action gun with thirty-two rounds of live cartridges.
  • A bowl of soaked garri with three spoons.
  • Nylons containing groundnut and garri.
  • Sachets of alcoholic drinks, matches, and lighters.

Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, commended the operatives for their courage and effective use of intelligence. He reiterated the command's unwavering commitment to making Delta State inhospitable for criminals.

"The command remains resolute in denying criminal elements the space to operate," CP Adesola stated, issuing a stern warning that Delta State will continue to be hostile to all forms of criminality.
