Police Hunt Man Who Attacked Wife with Axe in Maiduguri

Police in Borno State have launched a manhunt for a suspect who allegedly attacked his wife with an axe, inflicting serious injuries on her in Maiduguri.

Suspect Identified

The suspect, identified as Adam Jidda, allegedly attacked his wife, Maimuna Adam, on June 12, 2026 at about 5:30 a.m. Reports indicate that Jidda was suffering from a mental health condition at the time of the incident.

Attack Details

Striking the victim with an axe, the suspect caused severe injuries to the right side of her face. Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of GRA Division led a patrol team to the scene, where photographs were taken as part of preliminary investigations.

Victim Evacuated

The victim was subsequently evacuated to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) for medical treatment.

Ongoing Investigation

Police said the suspect fled the scene and remains at large. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend him, while investigations into the incident continue.
