A police officer attached to an escort van was burnt to death in a road accident on the Iyana Obafe section of the Sagamu–Siun–Kabape–Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State. The crash also left three other individuals with varying degrees of injuries.
Details of the Accident
The accident involved a bullion van belonging to Bemil, two Toyota Hilux escort vehicles, and a Silo truck with registration number KRD 945 YL. Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), confirmed the incident to journalists in Abeokuta on Saturday.
Casualties and Rescue Efforts
Akinbiyi stated that there were four occupants in the crash, which occurred inbound Siun near the President Muhammadu Buhari Estate. Three persons sustained injuries, while one was burnt alive. The TRACE PRO attributed the cause of the crash to the truck driver, who drove against traffic, resulting in a head-on collision with one of the escort vans. This led to the death of a police officer attached to the escort.
Operatives of TRACE, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and Amotekun were on the ground for rescue operations. The injured victims were taken to Osuth by good Samaritans, while the deceased's body was deposited at the Owode Egba General Hospital Morgue. Akinbiyi noted that normalcy has been restored to the road, as the accident vehicles were evacuated to Papa Oscar Cage in Siun.
