Police Officer Held Over Baby Death in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has taken a police officer into custody following an incident that led to the death of a three-month-old baby in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area. According to reports, a landlord summoned the officer over a disagreement with a tenant. However, the tenant was not present when the officer arrived at the scene.

Incident Details

During the intervention, the officer attempted to slap a relative of the tenant but missed and struck the baby instead, causing fatal injuries. The command's spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest and stated that the officer is undergoing interrogation and administrative procedures as per the Nigeria Police Force disciplinary guidelines.

Investigation Underway

Ikenga announced that a full-scale investigation has been launched to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and ensure justice. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, expressed deep regret and extended condolences to the bereaved family. He assured the public of transparency and professionalism in handling the matter.
