A throwback video featuring Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Newton Isokpehi has resurfaced and gone viral on social media. In the footage, Isokpehi is seen cursing at Nigerians for protesting the extrajudicial killing of 28-year-old Oghenemine Ogidi in Delta State.
Background of the Incident
The victim, Ogidi, was reportedly arrested on April 26 at a motor park in Delta State while attempting to retrieve a parcel sent by a friend. A police team led by ASP Nuhu Usman intercepted Ogidi and discovered that the package contained a pistol. Despite Ogidi's pleas of innocence regarding the parcel's contents and his offer to lead the operatives to the sender's residence, he was shot and killed in public.
ASP Isokpehi's Remarks
In the recirculated footage, ASP Isokpehi is seen hurling insults at citizens condemning the killing. The officer also directed vitriol at the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for ordering the dismissal of the personnel involved in the fatal shooting.
Arrest and Drug Test
Authorities have confirmed that ASP Isokpehi has been arrested and subjected to a drug test following the new video he made about shooting civilians who record him on duty.
