Borno Police Achieve Major Breakthrough in Kidnapping Case
The Borno State Police Command has recorded a significant victory in its ongoing battle against violent crimes with the successful rescue of a kidnapped 7-year-old boy, the arrest of five suspects, and the recovery of N1.5 million in ransom money. This operation demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and digital forensic capabilities in combating criminal activities in the region.
Timeline of the Kidnapping and Rescue Operation
According to ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the Police Public Relations Officer for Borno State Command, the incident began on March 23, 2026, when unknown persons abducted the young boy from the Chad Basin area of Maiduguri at approximately 6:40 PM. The victim's father promptly reported the kidnapping to authorities the following day, March 24, at about 3:30 PM, initiating an immediate police response.
The kidnappers contacted the child's mother using a concealed phone number, initially demanding a ransom of N10 million. Through negotiation, this amount was reduced to N8 million. The suspects subsequently received a partial payment of N1.5 million, which was transferred into a Point of Sale (POS) account they had provided to the family.
Digital Forensic Investigation Leads to Arrests
Police detectives employed intensive digital forensic analysis to trace the ransom payment, leading directly to the arrest of Musa Mohammed Bashir, the POS operator whose account was used to receive the illicit funds. This critical breakthrough enabled investigators to identify and apprehend four additional suspects through coordinated operations.
The arrested individuals include Ali Adam (also known as Abba), aged 24; Abubakar Sadiq, 29 years old; Abba Goni Abba, 18 years; and Mohammed Musa (alias Ale Mamman), also 18. All suspects are residents of Chad Basin and Bulabulin Alajiri areas within Maiduguri, highlighting the localized nature of the criminal network.
Successful Rescue and Recovery
Following the arrests, police successfully rescued the 7-year-old victim unharmed. Medical personnel conducted a thorough evaluation at a hospital before the child was safely reunited with his relieved family. Authorities also recovered the full N1.5 million ransom amount that had been paid to the kidnappers.
Commissioner of Police CP Naziru Abdulmajid commended the detectives for their swift action and professional investigation that led to this successful outcome. The police chief emphasized the command's sustained commitment to intelligence-led policing strategies and encouraged continued public cooperation with security agencies.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Safety Message
The case remains under active investigation, with all suspects scheduled to face formal charges in court. The Borno State Police Command has urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or movements to the nearest police station. The command provided emergency contact numbers 0806 807 5581 and 0802 347 3293 for public use in reporting security concerns.
This operation represents a clear demonstration of law enforcement's capability to respond effectively to kidnapping incidents through technological investigation methods and coordinated police work. The successful resolution of this case provides reassurance to Borno residents about police responsiveness to security threats while serving as a warning to criminal elements operating in the state.
