Poor Health Delays Native Doctor's Arraignment

The arraignment of Ikechukwu Ezenagu, a native doctor from Nnewi popularly known as Mmuo Mmili Afulu Anya, has been postponed to June 3, 2026. This decision was made by Justice Jude Obiora of the Anambra State High Court in Awka, who deemed the defendant unfit to enter a plea due to his poor health condition.

Before the defendant was brought into the courtroom on Friday, April 24, 2026, there was a heated exchange between the prosecution team, led by the Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN, and the defense counsel, Barrister Kingsley Awuka, regarding the defendant's health status.

Speaking to journalists after the proceedings, prosecution counsel Nweke stated that the state government is fully prepared to proceed with the case. Meanwhile, defense counsel Awuka expressed optimism that his client would be medically fit to enter a plea on the next adjourned date.
