A tragic accident in Jos, Plateau State, has claimed the life of a heavily pregnant woman, Ruth Nen Maurice, who was carrying twins. The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, when a driver attempting to evade Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) officials lost control and struck her.
Eyewitness Account
According to eyewitnesses, the woman was standing by the roadside waiting for a vehicle to take her to the hospital for an antenatal check-up. The driver, in a bid to escape VIO operatives, performed a dangerous maneuver and knocked her down.

A close friend, Ewan Boss Julz Odumu, confirmed the news on Facebook. He revealed that Ruth was almost due to deliver her twins. “A mother who was preparing to welcome twins back home never made it alive. Her unborn babies never got the chance to cry, breathe, or see this world because of somebody’s reckless decision,” Odumu wrote.
