Rainstorm Kills Woman, Granddaughter in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the tragic deaths of a 50-year-old woman, Aisha Sagir, and her 4-year-old granddaughter, Aisha Shuaibu, following a severe rainstorm in Katsinawa, Bara Village, Kirfi Local Government Area of the state.

Incident Details

According to a sympathy message issued to the State Government by the Command's Spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the incident occurred at approximately 10:00 hours on Wednesday, 10 June 2026. The Kirfi LGA experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds, leading to the tragic loss of the victims.

Extent of Damage

In addition to the loss of lives, the rainstorm destroyed several houses, livestock, and other valuables worth millions of naira. Police operatives from the Kirfi Division have visited the scene to assess the damage and maintain order in the affected community.

Police Response

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori, expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family and the entire people of Kirfi LGA. He prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest and give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. He assured residents that the Command, in collaboration with other relevant agencies, remains committed to supporting disaster response efforts and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
