The Rivers State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a notorious kidnapping syndicate, rescued the victim, and recovered the gang's operational vehicle. The breakthrough came after a swift intelligence-driven operation by the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on a direct report.
Abduction at a Shop
The incident began on Saturday, 11th July 2026, when Mrs. Ikechukwu, aged 35, was abducted by armed men while attending to customers at her shop. According to the police report filed by her husband, Mr. Ikechukwu, the kidnappers whisked her away in a white tinted mini-bus, leaving the family and community in distress.
Police Response and Arrests
Acting swiftly on the report, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) Rivers State launched an intensive intelligence-driven investigation, following the directives of the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju. The investigation led to the arrest of four suspects: Owhor Chinedu (M), 42, from Onelga Local Government Area; Isioto Waribok (M), 30, from Addoni Local Government Area; Maduabuchi Emeka (M), 34, from Onelga; and Joe Karachi (M), 28, also from Onelga Local Government Area, Rivers State.
Recovered Exhibits and Confessions
The police recovered the white mini-bus used in the abduction as an exhibit. Preliminary investigation indicates that all four suspects have confessed to their individual roles in the crime. The confessions have provided valuable leads for the ongoing operation.
Manhunt for Remaining Suspects
Efforts have been intensified to apprehend the two remaining members of the syndicate who are currently at large. The police are also working to recover the firearms used during the operation. The Rivers State Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents.
