Suspected Cultist Arrested with Gun, Camo in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has apprehended a suspected cultist found in possession of a pistol and military kits in Bida. The command's spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, made this known in a statement released on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the suspect was seen approaching a temporary police checkpoint on a motorcycle but fled upon noticing the operatives, which aroused suspicion. He was subsequently chased and arrested. During a search, a Baretta pistol was recovered from him.

A further search of his residence led to the recovery of a military camouflage cap, knickers, and a jacket. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Vikings cult group and stated that he purchased the pistol from one Gideon, a resident of Suleja, for N300,000.

The suspect also claimed to be a campus photographer and alleged that a friend gave him the military materials. The police statement reads: “On 22nd April, 2026 at about 2am, Police operatives attached to 'B' Div Bida while on routine patrol arrested one Agada Isaac a.k.a Tee-light, 30yrs, of a lodge around Federal Polytechnic Bida.”

It further states: “It was reported that the suspect was observed on a motorcycle approaching a temporary Police checkpoint in Bida, but on sighting the Police operatives, he stepped down from the motorcycle and took to his heels which raised a strong suspicion. The suspect was chased by the Police team, arrested and during the spot search, he was found with a Baretta pistol. In a further search of his residence, a military camouflage cap, knicker and a jacket were recovered.”

The suspect is currently under further investigation, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend Gideon and other accomplices.
