Taraba Alerts Public to Fraudster Posing as Govt Official

The Taraba State Government has issued a stern public alert, cautioning citizens against a suspected fraudster who is impersonating a senior government official to swindle money from unsuspecting individuals.

Impostor Targets Job Seekers

In a disclaimer released over the weekend, the state administration identified the suspect as an individual going by the name "Yeriman Kente." This person is falsely presenting himself as the Special Adviser on Political Matters to Governor Agbu Kefas.

The government's statement revealed that the impostor's scheme involves soliciting funds from members of the public. He deceitfully promises to facilitate appointments into the Taraba State Civil Service, specifically targeting the high-ranking position of Permanent Secretary.

Government Denies Any Association

The state authorities have completely disowned the suspect. The government clarified that "Yeriman Kente" is neither known nor authorised by Governor Agbu Kefas or any office within the Taraba State Government.

Emphasising the transparency of its recruitment process, the statement stressed that appointments into the state civil service are never obtained through monetary payments, undue influence, or the use of intermediaries.

Contact Details and Previous Warnings

The public notice provided specific contact details allegedly used by the fraudster to carry out his activities. These include the phone numbers 08134543621 and 08086776306.

Furthermore, the government disclosed that the suspect operates OPay accounts numbered 8134543621 and 7057225275, which are registered under the name Yerima Haruna.

Despite several prior warnings issued to the public, the government noted that the individual has persisted with his alleged fraudulent activities without pause.

Call for Public Vigilance and Action

The Taraba State Government has advised all residents to be extremely vigilant. The public is urged to:

  • Disregard any communication from the suspect.
  • Avoid any form of transaction involving the listed phone numbers or bank accounts.
  • Immediately report any contact or attempted transaction to the relevant security agencies.

The statement was officially signed by the authentic Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters and Special Duties, Josiah Sabo Kente. He reiterated that no one has been authorised to use his name, office, or position to solicit funds or defraud the public.

This alert serves as a crucial reminder for citizens to verify the credentials of anyone claiming to represent government officials, especially when such claims involve requests for money.
