Taraba Governor Takes Firm Action Against Intimidation in Teen Assault Case
In a decisive move to protect vulnerable citizens, Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has issued a direct order for security agencies to arrest all individuals involved in intimidating the victim of a brutal razor blade attack and her guardian. This directive comes in response to a disturbing incident in Donga Local Government Area where a teenage girl was violently assaulted.
Violent Assault on Minor Sparks Government Intervention
The case involves Miss Iwasen Terhemba, a 17-year-old girl who resides with her guardian, Jemila Wanga. According to reports, the teenager had been persistently approached by a married man identified as Mr. Abbas, whose advances she consistently rejected due to her age and his marital status. The situation escalated dramatically when the man's wife, Mrs. Ramatu Abbas, allegedly became aware of the harassment and began issuing verbal threats against the minor.
In an attempt to resolve the matter peacefully, the guardian reportedly approached Mrs. Abbas to explain that it was actually her husband who had been harassing the girl and urged her to caution him. Instead of addressing the situation calmly, the suspect allegedly visited the girl's residence and attacked her with a razor blade, inflicting serious facial injuries. Following the assault, the suspect reportedly warned both the victim and her guardian against reporting the incident to authorities, insisting the matter should be "settled at home."
Governor's Zero-Tolerance Stance on Violence
Governor Kefas made his position clear through a statement issued by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, signed by Commissioner Hon. Mrs. Mary Sinjen. The governor directed that no effort should be spared in securing justice for the victim and strengthening protective measures for vulnerable persons across Taraba State. The statement explicitly ordered the arrest of all individuals threatening the family and emphasized that intimidation of victims or obstruction of due process constitutes a serious offense that will be addressed decisively.
The Ministry strongly condemned the violent assault, describing it as a grave violation of the rights, dignity, and safety of a minor. "This reprehensible act will not be tolerated under any circumstances," the Ministry declared, reiterating the state government's zero-tolerance policy toward all forms of violence, harassment, intimidation, and abuse, particularly against women and children.
Coordinated Response and Support for Victims
Commissioner Sinjen revealed that the Ministry has been fully briefed on the incident and is actively coordinating with relevant security agencies and stakeholders. The suspect connected to the assault is currently in custody while investigations continue to ensure all responsible parties face justice according to the law.
The Ministry is providing comprehensive support to the victim and her guardian, including referrals for medical treatment, psychosocial counseling, and legal assistance while ensuring their safety throughout the judicial process. Mrs. Sinjen emphasized her Ministry's close partnership with the First Lady of Taraba State, Mrs. Agyim Kefas, to safeguard women's and children's rights and confront gender-based violence in all its forms.

Taraba State Police Command spokesman, Victor Mshelizah, confirmed that the case has been officially reported and investigations are ongoing. "The victim was at the police station, and her statement has been taken. The case file is being compiled and will be charged to court," he stated.
The Police Public Relations Officer acknowledged attempts by some community members to discourage the victim from pursuing the case but assured that such pressures would not prevent the police from performing their duties. "We are aware of pressures being mounted on the family to withdraw the case, but we will ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice," Mshelizah affirmed.
The Commissioner called on citizens to report cases of violence, abuse, or threats to appropriate authorities, promising that all reports would be treated with seriousness, confidentiality, and urgency.
