Police operatives in Ogun State have apprehended three individuals over allegations of criminal conspiracy and being in illegal possession of a human skull. The arrest took place in the Mowe area, sending shockwaves through the community.

Details of the Arrest and Police Statement

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the arrest, which occurred on January 8, 2026. According to a statement issued on Friday, January 9, 2026, by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, the suspects were taken into custody after being found with the human skull.

"The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in Mowe for conspiracy and unlawful possession of a human skull on January 8, 2026," the statement read. The police spokesperson further disclosed that the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) located in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for a more detailed and thorough investigation.

Ongoing Investigations and Community Reaction

Police investigations are actively ongoing to uncover critical details surrounding the gruesome discovery. Authorities are working to determine the precise source of the human skull and to establish the full extent of the suspects' involvement in the alleged crime.

A local trader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, provided some context to the incident. The source, who lives near where the arrest happened, suggested that the suspects did not commit the crime in Mowe but were tracked to their residence there. "They perpetrated the crime elsewhere, I believe, but were traced to the area where they live," the trader stated.

A Pattern of Similar Grisly Crimes

This incident is not an isolated case in Nigeria. It recalls a previous report where police operatives arrested seven suspected cultists with a human skull in Ikot Osura, within the Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Those suspects were held for cult-related attacks, armed robbery, and illegal possession of a firearm.

In another similar event, local security agents in the Agege area of Lagos State arrested a cemetery worker and two accomplices after finding five human skulls in their possession. That incident was notably the second time the cemetery worker faced allegations related to trafficking human remains.

The arrest in Mowe underscores ongoing concerns about the trafficking and unlawful possession of human body parts, prompting continued vigilance from security agencies across the country.
