Three arrested in Osun over human skull possession

The Osun State Police Command has apprehended three individuals in connection with the possession of a human skull that was exhumed from a family grave in the state. The command's Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement released on Friday, detailing the sequence of events that led to the arrests.

Incident reported on June 17

According to Ojelabi, the incident was reported to the police on June 17 by a resident who had visited the grave of his late elder brother at their family compound on June 15. Upon arrival, he discovered that the grave had been desecrated and the deceased's skull removed by unknown individuals.

Following the report, police operatives from the Oba-Ile Police Station launched an investigation. Acting on credible intelligence, they arrested the first suspect, identified as Ogunsola Ojo, a 40-year-old male.

During interrogation, Ojo allegedly implicated three other individuals: Ayeloja Lattef, Azeez Rasheed, and one Kunle Fatai, who remains at large. The police conducted a search at Fatai's residence, which led to the recovery of the suspected human skull concealed in an uncompleted building adjacent to his house.

Ojelabi stated, “Subsequent search operations conducted at the residence of the said Kunle Fatai led to the recovery of the suspected human skull concealed in an uncompleted building adjacent to his house. The recovered item has been documented and registered as an exhibit.”

Investigation ongoing

The command noted that investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to apprehend the fleeing suspect. Ojelabi added that the arrested suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
