The Lagos State Police Command has taken into custody a popular TikTok personality, Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following the circulation of a video depicting him driving recklessly. The incident, which resulted in a serious accident, was broadcast live to his substantial online following.

Details of the Incident and Arrest

According to an official statement released on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the dangerous driving event occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025. The police confirmed that the viral clip showed Peller operating his vehicle in a manner that not only caused a major road crash but also severely endangered his life and the safety of other road users.

The command condemned the act as unlawful and stated it was behaviour capable of causing a breach of public peace. Authorities expressed particular concern because the incident was live-streamed, amplifying its potential negative influence on a large audience.

Police Investigation and Strong Warning

The case has been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for comprehensive investigation. The police affirmed that the findings would be made public and that the suspect would be prosecuted if found culpable. "The suspect will be charged to a court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law," the statement emphasized.

Reacting to the event, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, issued a stern caution to social media influencers, content creators, and the general public. He warned against using online platforms to engage in, promote, or celebrate reckless, dangerous, or criminal acts.

"Social media must not be used as a platform to promote lawlessness or endanger lives," the police stated. "Any conduct capable of causing harm or disturbing public peace will be dealt with decisively." The commissioner stressed that such actions would not be tolerated and that the full weight of the law would be applied against violators of public safety rules.

Peller, a 20-year-old content creator, is one of Nigeria's most recognizable TikTok figures, commanding millions of followers across social media. He is famous for his humorous skits, distinctive style of English, and high-energy live streams, which have garnered him a massive youth fanbase.

In their statement, the police also seized the opportunity to urge all road users in Lagos to adhere to traffic regulations at all times. They highlighted that reckless driving remains a primary cause of accidents in the state and reiterated the command's commitment to protecting lives and property on Lagos roads.
