TikTok Star Jailed 17 Years for Multiple Rapes and Violent Offences

A transgender TikTok personality with tens of thousands of followers has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for a series of horrific sexual and violent offences, including raping a woman on multiple occasions.

Court Convicts Influencer of Repeated Rapes

Jennifer O'Brien, 34, who performed under the name Jennifer Nieve on the popular social media platform TikTok, was found guilty after a five-day trial at Manchester Crown Court. The court heard disturbing details of how O'Brien raped the victim despite clear indications that she did not consent to sexual activity.

Recorder Tim Harrington, the presiding judge, emphasized the severity of the crimes, stating that the rape charge was based on no fewer than 10 separate incidents of rape committed by the defendant. "I have to sentence you for at least 10 occasions that you raped her. This was repeated offending," Judge Harrington declared during the sentencing hearing.

Violent Offences and Psychological Impact

O'Brien was convicted on multiple counts, including rape, assault by penetration, and threatening the victim with an offensive weapon. The court was told that the defendant would become aggressive when the victim did not comply with her demands, creating an atmosphere of fear and coercion.

In a powerful victim impact statement read to the court, the woman described the deeply damaging psychological consequences of her ordeal. She revealed suffering from severe panic attacks, chronic anxiety, and sleep disturbances that have persisted for years. "I don't sleep for very long, and I'm up at all hours of the night. If I am in a group of more than five people I suffer from anxiety. The impact has been long term and deeply damaging. I have lived for years with fear and anxiety," the victim stated, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

Defense Arguments and Sentencing Details

Defense counsel Dan Calder presented mitigation arguments, highlighting O'Brien's previous good character and suggesting that the defendant suffers from complex PTSD with a history of trauma. Calder noted that O'Brien, who transitioned from male to female, does not agree with the jury's verdict but acknowledges the court's duty to impose sentence.

The defense also pointed out that O'Brien had spent two years on bail under an electronically monitored curfew, which will count toward the overall prison term. Despite these considerations, the court imposed a substantial sentence reflecting the gravity of the crimes.

Jennifer O'Brien, referred to in court documents as "Jordan O'Brien aka Jennifer Nieve," was ordered to serve two-thirds of her 17-year sentence in custody before becoming eligible for release consideration. This case highlights the serious consequences of sexual violence and the legal system's response to such crimes, particularly when committed by individuals with public profiles.
