The Lagos State Police Command has taken into custody popular TikTok personality Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a widely circulated online video that captured him driving recklessly and causing an accident while live-streaming the incident.
Police Statement Details Dangerous Act
In an official statement released on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer for Lagos State, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the arrest. The police stated that the incident, which took place on Sunday, December 14, 2025, sparked significant public outrage, prompting law enforcement action.
Authorities described Peller's actions as extremely irresponsible, posing a severe threat to public safety. The police accused him of endangering not only his own life but also the lives of other road users and pedestrians. The statement explicitly noted that his conduct represented a deliberate act that could have easily resulted in fatal consequences.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings Underway
The Lagos police have transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive probe. Officials confirmed that once the investigation is concluded, the findings will be made public, and the suspect will be formally charged in a court of law.
SP Abimbola Adebisi's statement read in part: "The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained, for further investigation, Habeeb Hamzat aka 'PELLER', subsequent to the viral video... in which he was seen driving recklessly, leading to a dangerous road crash and serious motor accident, while the incident was being live-streamed, thereby endangering his life and that of other road users."
Commissioner's Stern Warning to Influencers
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, used this incident to issue a strong warning to social media influencers and the general public. He cautioned against using online platforms to promote or engage in reckless, dangerous, or outright criminal behavior.
The police command emphasized that such lawlessness will not be tolerated and that offenders will face the full consequences of their actions. The statement reiterated the command's commitment to ensuring public peace and safety and urged all road users to strictly obey traffic regulations at all times.
Public reaction to the arrest has been largely supportive of the police action. Many social media users expressed relief and called for strict penalties. Comments compiled from online platforms included calls for his driving license to be revoked and for him to undergo psychological evaluation, with some users stating the arrest was "well deserved" and "long overdue."
This incident occurs against a backdrop of personal controversy for Peller, as it was recently reported that fellow TikTok star Jarvis publicly denied allegations of cheating on him, which some had speculated contributed to his emotional state.
