Visa Scam: Cameroonian Woman Loses N2m in Ogun

A Cameroonian national fell victim to a costly visa processing fraud in Ogun State, losing more than two million naira to suspected fraudsters. The incident, which highlights the risks of unofficial immigration assistance, saw a swift and compassionate response from the Ogun State Police Command.

Victim Abandoned After Payment

The victim, identified as Kelly Maffo, was allegedly deceived and defrauded in the Ibafo area of Ogun State. After realising she had been scammed, she found herself abandoned by the suspects along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. In distress, she sought help at the nearest police station.

The case was officially reported as obtaining money under false pretences at the Ibafo Division of the Ogun State Police Command on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at about 3:00 p.m. Police sources confirmed that officers received her immediately and launched an investigation into the matter.

Swift and Compassionate Police Response

The police reaction was described as prompt, professional, and humane. Detectives quickly initiated efforts to track down the fleeing suspects. In a notable act of leadership, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ibafo Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Ajayi, took personal charge of the victim's welfare.

Demonstrating exceptional humanity, CSP Ajayi reportedly used personal funds to pay for Maffo's transportation back to the airport. This intervention ensured her safety and guaranteed she did not miss her scheduled flight out of Nigeria.

Command Commends Officers, Vows to Apprehend Suspects

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed that intensive efforts to arrest the suspects are ongoing and promised further updates. The incident has been cited by observers as a positive reflection of the command's people-friendly and service-driven approach.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the DPO and his team for their exemplary conduct. He also called for continued public support, stating, “I urge members of the public to remain vigilant and law-abiding, and to support the Police with credible information. The Ogun State Police Command remains fully prepared to ensure a safe, peaceful state.”
