The wife of a businessman who tragically lost his life in the devastating fire at the Great Nigeria Insurance House plaza in Lagos has broken her silence, sharing a poignant final video of them together.
A Christmas Tragedy in Balogun Market
A catastrophic fire struck the 25-storey Great Nigeria Insurance House plaza at Balogun Market, Lagos Island, on December 24, 2025. The inferno, which reportedly began on the fourth floor, spread rapidly, leading to a partial collapse of the building and trapping numerous traders inside.
One of the confirmed victims was Nze Obum, a cloth merchant based in China. He had returned to Nigeria for the Christmas season to be with his wife, who had recently given birth, and to sell goods at the market.
The Final Moments and a Heartbreaking Tribute
According to reports, the collapse occurred as Obum was retrieving remaining stock from his shop located behind the plaza. A voice note he made shortly before his death was later released, revealing his final thoughts.
His widow, identified on TikTok as @prettyamiy, took to her Instagram page to mourn her husband. She posted an emotional video of the last dance they shared on December 23, 2025, just one day before the fatal incident.
