Woman Murdered, Body Dumped in Abuja Canal

A 29-year-old Sociology graduate of Kogi State University, Blessing Moshood, has been murdered, with her body discovered in a canal in Jikwoyi, Abuja. The incident has left the community in shock.

Details of the Incident

Speaking with Daily Trust on Sunday, May 24, 2026, the deceased's sister, Abigail Moshood, recounted that Blessing left their home around 8 p.m. on Thursday after speaking with someone on the phone. Approximately an hour later, Blessing called to say she would return home briefly to pick up her forgotten phone charger.

When Blessing did not return home the following day, the family grew worried. Abigail said, "We later heard people talking about the body of a woman discovered inside a canal, and someone described the hairstyle the deceased had, which matched my sister's."

"My mother started crying, and we also learned that policemen from the Jikwoyi Police Station had evacuated the corpse, which was found half-naked with only a top on, to a mortuary in Mararaba, Nasarawa State," Abigail added.

Abigail later visited the Jikwoyi Police Station to inquire about the incident and was shown photographs of the deceased, confirming it was her sister.

Community Reaction

A neighbor, Margaret, described the late Blessing as an intelligent and friendly person. "I learned she graduated with a Second Class Upper in Sociology, and whenever she spoke, you could hardly fault her English. She was also very friendly in this neighborhood and will be greatly missed by all of us, especially the children who have been crying since they learned of her death," Margaret said.

Another neighbor, Abdullahi Musa, appealed to the police to deploy crack detectives to areas around Jikwoyi Medical Centre to apprehend criminals involved in phone snatching and related crimes.

Police Confirmation

The FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine, confirmed the incident, adding that an investigation into the case is ongoing.
