A 25-year-old Zambian model has died after vomiting and falling unconscious following a night out with friends in Lusaka, according to reports from local media. The incident occurred on August 25, 2026, and the cause of death remains unknown pending autopsy results.
Details of the Incident
The model, identified as Mwansa Chanda, was out with friends at a popular nightspot in the Zambian capital. She reportedly began vomiting and then lost consciousness. Friends rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to a friend who was with her, "She was fine all evening, laughing and dancing. Then suddenly she started vomiting and collapsed. We tried to help her, but she was already unconscious." The friend, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the group immediately called for an ambulance.
Investigation Underway
Zambian police have launched an investigation into the death. Police spokesperson Esther Mwansa confirmed that the body has been taken to the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka for an autopsy. "We are awaiting the results of the autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. At this stage, we cannot rule out any possibilities," Mwansa said.
The model's family has been informed and is cooperating with authorities. Her mother, Beatrice Chanda, described her daughter as "a vibrant young woman with a bright future." She added, "We are devastated by this loss. We just want to know what happened to her."
Community Reaction
The death has shocked the local modelling community in Zambia. Fellow model and friend, Thandiwe Banda, expressed grief on social media, writing, "Rest in peace, Mwansa. You were a star. We will miss you." Others have called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Local health officials have cautioned against speculation about the cause, urging the public to wait for the autopsy results. Dr. James Mulenga, a physician at the University Teaching Hospital, said, "Without a post-mortem examination, it is impossible to determine why she died. We urge everyone to avoid spreading rumours."
As of now, no arrests have been made, and police have not identified any suspects. The autopsy report is expected to be released within the next two weeks, according to the police spokesperson.
