Police Intercept Suspected Trafficker with Three Young Children
The Niger State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in combating human trafficking with the arrest of a 40-year-old woman found with three children suspected to be victims of abduction.
According to police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun, the incident occurred on November 5, 2025, at approximately 5 pm at Diko junction in Niger State. Police operatives from Gawu-Babangida Division stationed at the junction swiftly moved to apprehend the suspect identified as Victoria Ebunoha Chukwumezie from Nyanya, Abuja.
Children Rescued, Parents Contacted
During interrogation, the suspect revealed she had taken the children from Lambata and was transporting them to Abuja under the guise of providing care. The three rescued children have been identified as Kazeem, aged 3, Ya'amadu, aged 2, and Idris, also aged 2.
Police authorities have successfully contacted the children's parents, providing relief to families who had likely been experiencing tremendous anxiety. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to uncover the full extent of the suspected trafficking operation.
Related Criminal Arrest in Minna
In a separate but related development, the Niger State Police also apprehended Favour Udeaja, 21 years old, on November 3 around 10 am at Old City Gate in Minna.
The suspect was intercepted by a police patrol team attached to Chanchaga Division while riding a motorcycle. When questioned, Udeaja failed to provide a satisfactory account of himself, raising officers' suspicions.
Further investigation revealed that the motorcycle had been stolen from a student's lodge in Bida. The suspect had removed the number plate and transported the vehicle to Minna with the intention of selling it. Udeaja remains in police custody awaiting prosecution.
Bandits Kidnap 16 Villagers in Zamfara Community
In a distressing parallel development, security challenges continue to plague northwestern Nigeria as bandits attacked Sabo village in Murai ward of Talata Mafara Local Government Area, Zamfara State.
The attack occurred on Wednesday, November 6, 2025, resulting in the abduction of more than 16 community members. According to villager Muhammad Usman, the assault took place despite heavy surveillance by local vigilantes from the area.
Sado district head Aliyu Saidu confirmed the grim situation, stating: "The bandits entered the community without notice. The vigilantes worked hard to repel the attack, but the terrorists overpowered them, considering the large number of assailants who stormed the village."
The kidnapped victims include women, children, and elderly residents. Authorities fear the number of victims might increase as search efforts continue to account for all missing persons.
In response to the growing security threat, youths from neighboring Gidan Matan Aure village have mobilized to protect their community against potential attacks.
These incidents highlight the ongoing security challenges facing Nigerian communities and the continued efforts by law enforcement to combat crimes ranging from human trafficking to banditry.
