Prominent human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu has made an emotional visit to the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, where terrorists recently attacked during a live service and abducted 38 worshippers.
Heartbreaking Scene at Attack Site
Gwamnishu traveled to the community to sympathize with the church leadership and victims of the horrific attack that occurred during a Sunday service. During his visit, he met with both the resident pastor and the zonal superintendent of the church, who guided him through the devastating aftermath of the terrorist invasion.
The church building still bears visible scars of the attack, with multiple bullet holes visible on the doors and blood stains marking the floor where worshippers were shot. The resident pastor, who narrowly escaped the attack himself, shared his traumatic experience with the activist.
Three Confirmed Deaths, Millions in Ransom Demanded
According to Gwamnishu's account from the scene, at least three victims have been confirmed killed in the attack that has left the entire community in mourning and fear. The terrorists are now demanding millions of naira as ransom for the release of the remaining abductees, who include children and their mothers taken from the house of God.
The activist expressed his shock at the brutality displayed during the attack, emphasizing that the sight of blood spilled in a place of worship was particularly heartbreaking. The entire Eruku community, alongside the church leadership, is now making an urgent appeal to both state and federal governments for immediate intervention.
Urgent Call for Government Action
Gwamnishu used the opportunity to call on security agencies to deploy more personnel to Eruku and surrounding communities to prevent further attacks. There are genuine concerns that these criminals may strike another community if adequate security measures are not put in place immediately.
"The entire Eruku community, alongside the church, is urgently calling on the Government to intervene and rescue these innocent people," Gwamnishu stated. "I urge the Government to move in more security in Eruku and other neighboring towns as these criminals may likely attack another community."
