Panic has gripped the community of Maga in Kebbi state following a devastating dawn raid by armed bandits on a girls' secondary school. The attackers struck the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in the Danko Wasagu area, leaving a trail of death and destruction in their wake.
A Tragic Morning Assault
The terror began around 5 am on Monday, November 17, 2025, when the armed gangs, locally known as bandits, invaded the school premises. According to local sources, the school's vice principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, was tragically gunned down while courageously trying to protect his students from being abducted.
In addition to the killing of the VP, the school's principal was shot and a security guard injured during the violent incursion. The bandits succeeded in abducting an unspecified number of female students, creating widespread fear and mourning throughout the Maga community.
Community in Mourning and Fear
Local resident Aliyu Yakubu confirmed the attack has created significant panic among residents. "We are now in fear and mourning," he stated, highlighting the emotional toll on the community. The source emphasized that the school administrators were targeted specifically because they attempted to shield the students during the attack.
The bandits have not gone far from the area, according to residents who are now urgently calling for both federal and state government intervention to rescue the abducted girls before they're taken deeper into forest hideouts.
Authorities Remain Silent
As of the time of reporting, the police authorities in Kebbi state have maintained silence regarding the incident. Multiple attempts to reach Nafiu Abubakar, the police spokesperson in Kebbi state, proved unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls made to his phone lines.
This attack represents another chapter in the ongoing security crisis affecting northwestern Nigeria, where bandits have increasingly targeted educational institutions. The pattern mirrors the 2014 Chibok girls abduction by Boko Haram, though these incidents are considered separate operations by different armed groups.
The presidency under President Bola Tinubu has repeatedly committed to ending insecurity in Nigeria, though challenges persist across multiple regions including the northeast conflict and separatist tensions in the south.
